Learn textile arts & develop friendships with other textile artists (beginners welcome)
MEN’S TEXTILE ARTS CO-OP:
We help each other learn textile arts skills, support creative expression, & promote wellness & community through conversation about our challenges, dreams, & creativity
Every Saturday, 10 am - 12 noon*
You may join at any time (class is always open to newcomers & those with no
experience)
Manifest NE Studio
GOALS:
a. Participants will learn more about various textile arts (knitting, crocheting, sewing, quilting, etc.)
b. Participants will have a chance to practice these forms with other men who are more experienced.
c. Participants will support each other’s creative expression and gain inspiration through this creative exchange.
d. Participants will become part of a ‘tight-knit’ group of male artisans and amateur crafters.
ACTIVITIES:
a. Each week the group will host an experienced craftsman who will share his work and skills with the group.
b. Participants will have a chance to take lessons from more experienced craftsmen or get help with their own projects.
c. Participants will have the opportunity to gain inspiration from books and magazines shared during the group meeting by members of the group. (Loaning of written materials will be arranged by the owner and borrower - but during the group meeting we can all take a peek at each other’s libraries!)
d. If group members choose to do so, we will engage in a group project like making hats for the homeless or creating a quilt that can be raffled to support a local charity.
e. Hopefully, there will be time for field trips to yarn and fabric stores as well as to the Museum of Craft in downtown Portland.
f. This is a casual group so there is room for men of all experience levels - the only requirement is an interest in textile arts and a willingness to learn and share.
BENEFITS:
a. Expanded knowledge of textile art forms.
b. Inspiration for new projects.
c. Support for creative expression.
d. Friendship and fun!
